Blog 3: What did you do at charging stops?

One question we’ve gotten a few times, is what did we do during all the charge stops? On the Newfoundland road trip each car stopped on the highway for almost 10 hours of charging time between 4 days. The stop times ranged from 9 to 60 mins, with an average stop time of 35 minutes in the Kona and 41 minutes in the Tesla

Our shortest charge stops, those that were less than 25 minutes long looked a lot like a regular gas stop. We would take a bathroom break, stretch our legs, and grab a snack. At a few stops we’d take pictures of the charging car and film a little content for social media!

Most of our stops were in the “medium length” category, ranging from 25-50 mins. These stops included the items listed above; bathroom break, etc. But we added whatever activity we were inclined to at the time! Here’s a list of a few things we did: take in the scenery, send emails, read, take a phone call, listen to a podcast, watch YouTube, a show, or movie on an personal tablet or phone or the Tesla screen.

The very longest stops were those over 50mins. Sometimes we would simply do the above activities. However, a few times, we would find somewhere nearby (usually an Irving Big Stop) and sat down for a meal inside!

Because we knew we would be making long stops to charge, we brought activities to keep us busy. The planning we did made sure our expectations were in the same place to keep our spirits high, even through some long days of driving!
